Jackson Hole, Wyo.-A Jackson Hole-based skier who used a fund-raising campaign to support her Olympic dreams did not make the Vancouver lineup.
Caitlin Ciccone’s name was not on the U.S. Olympic Team roster, which was announced Tuesday. Ciccone, originally of Bethlehem, N.H., was trying for a berth on the freestyle ski team as a ski cross racer.
Ciccone, who moved to Jackson Hole last winter, was not a shoe-in for the Olympic team and had to pay her own way on the international ski cross tour that could have prepared and qualified her for the Winter Games next month. Fund-raisers were held here and in New York City to help Ciccone foot the bill of travel and lodging while she trained with the team.
No women will represent the U.S. in ski cross in February, when the sport will make its Olympic premiere (snowboard cross debuted in 2006). However, ski cross men Daron Rahlves and Casey Puckett will represent the U.S. in the Winter Games.
